Xenofon Sinopidis
Professor of Pediatric Surgery, University of Patras
Xenofon Sinopidis is Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the Department of Medicine of the University of Patras. He teaches Pediatric Surgery to students in the last three of the six years of the undergraduate medical program, as well as to students from universities abroad through the Erasmus and Helmsic educational programs. He also trains students in surgical skills and techniques through workshops. He is one of the organizers and instructors of the MedsCAN program, which prepares medical students to recognize and manage child abuse. He has taught in two postgraduate programs at the University of Patras and two at the University of Athens.
Xenofon Sinopidis is a member of the Education Committee of the Hellenic Pediatric Surgical Society, contributing to the continuing education of Pediatric Surgeons in Greece. He is the Medical Director of the Emergency Pediatric Care Program, which focuses on the management of emergency pediatric problems and takes place at the ATLS facilities of the Department of Medicine of the University of Patras, with trainees from all over Greece. He is the President of the Examination Committee for obtaining the specialty title in Pediatric Surgery through the national examination system, based in Athens. He is a founding member of the Hellenic Society of Minimally Invasive Pediatric Surgery. He has participated in the successful completion of 26 Doctoral Dissertations and 40 Postgraduate Theses. He has published more than 90 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, in addition to the rest of his written work. His research work is multifaceted, with a special interest in the Molecular Biology of cryptorchidism in children.
With 25 years of clinical and surgical experience as a Pediatric Surgeon, Xenofon Sinopidis performs the full range of pediatric surgical procedures in newborns, infants and older children. Having completed a Doctoral Dissertation and training in Pediatric Urology, he has a special interest in pediatric urological surgical procedures for the treatment of diseases of the kidneys, ureters and bladder, cryptorchidism and other conditions of the testes and scrotum, phimosis and other congenital conditions of the genital organs, with extensive experience in the surgical repair of hypospadias.
His most recent activity is the beginning of his collaboration in the private sector with the new Pediatric Medical Center NeoPedCare, where parents can get in touch with him.

Conditions of the head, face and neck:
Dermoid and epidermoid cysts, moles, short lingual frenulum — ankyloglossia, ranula, preauricular fistulas and appendages, congenital torticollis, thyroglossal duct cyst, branchial cysts and branchial fistulas, hemangiomas, cystic hygroma and other types of lymphangiomas, cervical tumors, scalp lesions.
Conditions of the gastrointestinal system:
Esophageal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, acute abdominal pain, acute appendicitis, pyloric stenosis, duodenal atresia and stenosis, small intestine atresia, intussusception, congenital anorectal malformations, intestinal malrotation and fixation abnormalities — malrotation, constipation, congenital megacolon — Hirschsprung’s disease, meconium ileus, duplications of the gastrointestinal tract, gastrointestinal bleeding, Meckel’s diverticulum, anal fissure, necrotizing enterocolitis, intussusception, congenital liver and gallbladder conditions, spleen conditions.

Hypospadias, phimosis, balanopreputial adhesions, hydrocele, spermatic cord cyst, cryptorchidism, varicocele, ovarian conditions, painful scrotum — testicular torsion, torsion of testicular appendage, epididymal cyst, hydronephrosis, vesicoureteral reflux, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, congenital malformations in kidney position and development, polycystic kidney, renal dysplasia, horseshoe kidney, duplicated pelvicalyceal system, ureterocele, megaureter, ureterovesical junction obstruction, posterior urethral valves, disorders of sex development, kidney transplantation.
Special conditions:
Solid and cystic tumors of childhood, skin conditions, vascular malformations and hemangiomas, burns, pediatric trauma — head and neck injuries, chest injuries, abdominal and pelvic injuries, laceration wounds.
Surgical procedures are performed either with an open method or with a laparoscopic technique, according to medical indications.
